  • ♻️ “Youth Have a Solution for Plant Waste” – Delchevo in Action for a Sustainable Future

In December 2025, in Delchevo, in the Ochipala neighborhood, the youth initiative “Youth Have a Solution for Plant Waste” was implemented, aimed at raising awareness about proper organic waste management and promoting sustainable practices.

The initiative was carried out by Organization ZHENA Delchevo, with the support of mentor Simona Petrovska, in cooperation with the Youth Team – Activism and Debate Group. The training on permaculture and composting was delivered by Fidancho Hristov, a licensed organic food producer.

What was implemented?

The activities included:

a practical workshop on permaculture and composting with 16 participants;

a demonstration of the organic waste composting process;

planting several fruit trees using organic fertilizer;

developing a youth action plan to undertake concrete initiatives for raising public awareness.

The event took place in the organic garden in Ochipala, and in the evening hours, within the debate club framework, the young participants developed a plan for further activities and an eco-campaign.

Results and Impact

Through this initiative:

16 participants were directly involved (14 young people aged 15–17 and 2 individuals over 55 years old);

14 young people gained practical knowledge about composting and organic waste management;

fruit trees were planted using organic fertilizer;

youth motivation increased for implementing a broader eco-campaign if additional funding is secured;

a message was sent about waste separation and the use of organic waste as a natural resource.

The Debate Club, the Youth Council, and the Citizens’ Association “Aronia” were also involved in the implementation.

Challenges and Lessons Learned

No major challenges were observed during the implementation. The process demonstrated that practical education and the direct involvement of young people in field activities have the strongest impact on their environmental awareness and sense of responsibility.

This initiative confirms that when young people are provided with knowledge, space, and support, they become drivers of a more sustainable and cleaner community. 🌱

The activity is part of the project “ZZZ – Together for Green Advocacy for Environmental Protection,” funded by the Embassy of Switzerland in North Macedonia through the Civica Mobilitas program, and implemented by the Center for Youth Activism KRIK, the Center for Social Initiatives Nadez, and the Association of Social Workers of Macedonia – ZSRM.
