This is exactly what the “Circular Park” initiative demonstrated at the Primary School “Dedo Iljo Maleshevski” in Berovo. Through a joint action, the initiative brought together students, teachers, local institutions, public enterprises, donors and volunteers around a common goal – creating a healthier, greener and more pleasant environment for everyone.
The initiative was implemented in the Municipality of Berovo through a partnership between the Primary School “Dedo Iljo Maleshevski”, PCE “Usluga” – Berovo, the Municipality of Berovo, local donors and volunteers. Together, they arranged and beautified part of the school yard, creating a space that will serve as a place for socialising, learning and developing environmental awareness among students.
🌿 In addition to planting flowers and seedlings, sixth- and eighth-grade students actively participated in creative workshops and produced literary and visual artworks, as well as presentations on the topic “The Impact of Nature on Human Life.” In this way, they not only contributed to beautifying the school environment, but also gained knowledge and skills related to environmental protection and recognised their own role in creating a sustainable community.
🍀 This is where the concept of green social work becomes visible – an approach that connects people, communities and nature. Instead of seeing the environment merely as something that needs to be protected, it becomes a tool for strengthening social connections, active citizenship, a sense of belonging and shared responsibility. Through activities like these, young people learn that everyone can contribute to positive change, no matter how small the initiative may seem.
🤝 One of the special values of the “Circular Park” initiative is its inter-institutional cooperation. The school, local government, public utility company, donors and volunteers demonstrated that when different stakeholders work together, lasting benefits can be created for both people and the environment.
🌍 The initiative showed that green social work is not only about planting trees and improving public spaces. It is also about building awareness, encouraging solidarity and creating active citizens who care about the communities in which they live. The new green corner at the school will serve as a lasting reminder that every idea, when supported by the community, can grow into a change with long-term impact.
💚 When institutions, schools and citizens unite around a shared vision, green social work becomes a driving force for sustainable change – for a better environment, a stronger community and a better future for young people.
🌍 The initiative is part of the project “ZZZ – Together for Green Advocacy for Environmental Protection”, supported by the Government of Switzerland through Civica Mobilitas, in partnership with CMA KRIK, the Center for Social Initiatives “Nadez” and the Association of Social Workers of Macedonia.
