  • “Children Know, Children Can” – Four Steps Toward Greater Environmental Awareness Among the Youngest

With great dedication, energy, and sincere belief in the potential of every child, CSI Nadezh – Skopje successfully implemented four creative and educational workshops in the Skopje region under the motto “Children Know, Children Can.”

The program was designed for children aged 6 to 14 from families with low socio-economic status and Roma children, with the aim of encouraging environmental awareness, creativity, and a sense of responsibility toward the community through non-formal education.

Learning Through Creativity and Practice

The four carefully designed and adapted workshops enabled children to learn in an interactive and practical way about environmental protection and improvement. The topics included:

- pollution and recycling

- the importance of water

- the plant world

- animal protection

- introduction to local biodiversity

The workshops were implemented under the following titles:

“Clean Planet – My Responsibility”

“A Drop of Water for a New Life”

“The Animal Kingdom in Danger”

“Eco-Patrol”

Through recycling activities, creative crafting, drama games, and mini eco-actions, the children not only gained new knowledge but also developed awareness, empathy, and a sense of personal responsibility. They learned that each of us – regardless of age – can be part of positive change.

An Inclusive Approach Makes a Difference

With the active involvement of 10 children and the full achievement of all planned objectives, the program demonstrated that an inclusive approach in non-formal education has a strong impact on children’s personal development and their relationship with nature and the community.

These workshops were not just educational activities – they were a space for building self-confidence, cooperation, and a sense of belonging.

Small Steps Today – Big Changes Tomorrow

The project “Children Know, Children Can” once again confirmed that when children are given opportunity, support, and inspiration – they truly know and they truly can.

The small steps we take today create greater and more meaningful changes tomorrow. 🌱

The activity is part of the project “ZZZ – Together for Green Advocacy for Environmental Protection,” funded by the Embassy of Switzerland in North Macedonia through the Civica Mobilitas program, and implemented by the Center for Youth Activism KRIK, Center for Social Initiatives “Nadez,” and the Association of Social Workers of Macedonia – ZSRM.
